Whenever I use this particular technique in public or in a video, people want to know how to do it! So that's this week's video - a tutorial for my overhead elbow spin to shoulder hooping technique. I hope it's helpful...this is my first tutorial, and I am not normally a great teacher.
The name "Clockwork Doll" comes from the pendulum motion of the arm that is propelling the elbow hooping, and from the stance taken to get to the overhead elbow hooping, a riff on Tyra Banks' beloved "broken down doll" pose.
I know I promised a fun disco-y sort of thing this week, but I have been largely snowed in and A) was not about to venture out in a skirt plus B) the roads were all iced over and it was kinda dangerous. I'll try again next week.
The music in the opening credits is the theme from "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." It had been one of the contenders for "The Music Box Dancer Experiment" until they used it on "So You Think You Can Dance." I'd be grumpy about it if I didn't love Sonya Tayeh and hadn't found a more suitable piece of music for my project!
