Design Indaba has commissioned 6 South African filmmakers to produce short films for the 2011 event.
The competition was stiff, and the top filmmakers were chosen based on their creativity, technical prowess, and story-telling ability.
Rio Allen produced an impressive piece on Capetonian graphic artist and rapper, Mr Fuzzy Slipperz.
"Film making for me has always been something I experience with close friends and although it is how I make a living, it has never been a ‘job’, it is more of a pleasure and a blessing. ‘A Fuzzymentary’ was shot in 3 hours in and around Woodstock Industria on a Friday afternoon with my friends Warren Smart and ‘Mr. Fuzzy Slipperz’. It wasn’t really a shoot, we just hung out and had a laugh. We shot the entire video on the Canon 5D making use of an old 60’s Pentax 1.4 50mm lens and on occasion we slapped on a Sigma 1.8. 14mm. The Edit was tight and we only really had an afternoon, I sat with another friend Lorien amy Bolus and we cut it together to the music of ‘Card On Spokes’, a local Cape Town musician. I enjoyed the process and would like to turn it into a web series called ‘Artist in the city’."
