The 2011 Rugged Riders Kinky Rail Jam series launched on January 23rd at Cypress Mountain in Vancouver, BC. “Why on a Sunday” you ask? Well regardless of the answer, it turned out for the best since Saturday was foggy and slightly rainy...Sunday ended up bringing us mild hoodie-wearing temps and a sneak peek of sun while the fog clouds decided to linger perfectly above our heads.
Riders piled into our private Rugged Riders park – which held two boxes, a down rail, two down-flat-down boxes, and a up-flat-down box – and got warmed up in the morning learning new tricks with the coaches. The afternoon heated up with the beginner, intermediate, and advanced jams...the megaphone siren went off as each sick and sicker trick was landed.
'Justice' blasted through the sound system which brought on impromptu dance parties at the drop-in area and by riders hiking back up to the top – perhaps a new award for a dance contest will be in the works for next season!
Everyone's rail riding abilities progressed that day, and everyone left with a smile on their face – we already can't wait until the dance party at Vancouver Kinky Rail Jam 2012!
Thanks to Jay and the Cypress park crew, Second Wave boardshop, Boardroom on Lonsdale, Jen McGoldrick, Melanie Camman, megaphone MC Kenrae, photographer Erin Hogue, Harneet and the CATO film team, Christine, street team Emily and Kate, volleys Joey and Nickerson, and all the riders for coming out and kicking serious ass!
The Kinky Rail Jam series is sponsored by VANS, SBCWomen.com, Matix, DVS, Dialogue Headwear; in collaboration with Women in Snowboarding and BC Snowboard Association.
