I'm writing these words three months after that gray night in Archer Ballroom. Atop a mattress on the floor in my red-lit room in Brooklyn, New York, I'm finally writing these words for this little film from Chicago. The last of the CHICAGOLAND episodes. I'm meditating on the major and often brash steps I take in my life to follow the music that I've come to love.
I'm a little embarrassed to admit something about the making of CHICAGOLAND. For one, this little series was never meant to exist. I was sprawled on the floor of my old home in New Jersey, struggling heavily with the blandness, the predictability of recent Sessions I've been editing. And so, I thought my brain needed a jump start. Something away from the East Coast. I scoured the web for new music that would I hoped would get my mind "clicking" again. It wasn't long when I found Rachele Eve. A friend of a friend of a friend of a friend on the endless maze of music on Myspace. It only took one listen of "Pronouncing Logic," a song that continually blasts from my ipod, a song I've been learning to play lead guitar with, a song that was enough for me to book a ticket to Chicago.
I've met tons of new friends, seen a myriad of new places, got exposed to so much new music. I love them all. But really, CHICAGOLAND is for Rachele Eve as much as this adventure was for me.
I'm out of words again. It seems to happen a lot these days. So many stories without a voice. Just flashes of memory. Echoes. Moments in time. But for once, I'm confident enough to say that this little film is exactly what I saw, heard, and felt that frigid night in Chicago. So enjoy whoever you are that's watching. Rachele Eve's music will take your words away.
