If I have to make a documentary film, why shouldn't I make it about my brilliant grandmother - Latvīte Aleksandra Medniece - the oldest working clay artist in Latvia.
This documentary was made during an assignment in Baltic Film and Media school (Estonia) l in 2007.
I travelled to Latvia and spent several days together with her.
It was an amazing time. I have always been amazed about the way she speaks, acts. All the pauses she takes while talking, to think everything trough. Her brilliant sense of humor, that she adds in every piece she makes.
The best was her suggestion - to call the film "Footprints in Clay"
I spent about a week to edit the shot material. One day she called me and asked - why I don't call her anymore. Usually I called every second day. But for me she was so THERE with me while I was editing.
Now, in 2016,9 years after this film was made, she is at home. Writing stories, gathering images, remembering.. In 2017 will come out a book about her.
