RECHT. Ökonomien des Handelns 2
„On this side of the law, on that side of the law, who is right, who is wrong, who is for and who’s against the law?“ Johnny Cash
“RECHT. Ökonomien des Handelns 2” (LAW. Economies of action) is the second music theatre piece in a three-part series about the fundamental premises of social action. “RECHT” examines the ways in which regional policies and borders shape legal systems. Two groups work in experimental set-ups on the creation of regulatory systems: in the film, we see a group of six lawyers and NGO workers discussing, arguing, dancing and celebrating on an island in the Moselle located in the nether lands near the city of Schengen in Luxembourg. Three decades after the first Schengen Agreement, they ask themselves how legislation can be used to secure justice worldwide? Their task: to create new, transnational legislation that meets the requirements of the national judiciaries and simultaneously takes into account the demands of a new, globalized society.
Kötter and Seidl launched this extraordinary “Republic of Scholars” in late summer 2014 and accompanied them over 24 hours with a camera and a microphone. Soloists of the Ensemble NADAR likewise attended the assembly of thinkers in the role of “ceremonial band” and acoustic confrontation.
Now live on stage, the Ensemble NADAR musicians operate – in an analogy to the island − with their own system of rules covering scores, improvisation, screen and concert hall: experimental documentary film and live concert close ranks, double, duplicate, accompany and comment on one another, thus allowing the audience to tangibly reflect on and experience the territorial implications of legislation and music in interaction on all levels.
