Canon Europe – The Race Track – Project Story
We were super stoked when our friends over at manamediagroup invited us to collaborate on this project.
Canon Europe, first, wanted to present their new professional camcorder the XF305 with a stunning video that would demonstrate it’s powerful features and professional capabilities, but also show how the XF305 works seamlessly with the 5D MarkII. Canon was extremely motivated to show that they still can make great video camcorder technology.
The idea was to choose a subject that would put both cameras to the test and what better to do that than high-speed race carts. Not only was it a test for the cameras, but also for us. With only two days to shoot, we were quite pressed to capture everything we needed to make both stories flow and percolate with energy.
We had two XF305’s working tandem with two 5D’s to be as efficient as possible.
The 5D’s were primarily used for high speed cart mounted shots, and of course, capturing beauty shots, while the XF305’s were our work horse capturing quick interviews and coverage of each scene. The workflow was seamless and allowed us to really benefit from both cameras capabilities.
“The Race Track” was a two day high-speed adventure that lead to two of the biggest tradeshows in Europe (IBC and Photokina). We had the rare opportunity to spend a week present the films and speak about the project.
It’s not everyday you have the chance to inspire others. It was truly a beautiful experience.
