Day 09 - Saturday, June 5, 2010 - Fort Abercrombie was a World War II Coastal Defense installation with two eight-inch guns. The remnants of both guns were on display. This site became an Alaska State Historical Park in 1969 consisting of about 186 acres.
We visited the Visitor's Center, Fort Abercrombie, and entered the Kodiak Alaska Military Museum and took a tour.
We decided to hike back to the Ranger Station on Wildflower Trail. Only a few of the wild flowers were blooming, but the trail was well marked with signage of this Temperate Rainforest. It took us about two hours to hike a 20 minute trail but we enjoyed playing with Skipper, taking pictures, meeting new people, and eating a small picnic lunch.
