Albany- Gerald E. Wood, 76, of Hudson died Sunday January 1, 2017 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany. Born August 19, 1940, in Hudson, he is the son of Daniel Wood, Helen Mueller Webster and Charles Webster Jr. all predeceased.
Gerry, affectionately known as “Woody”, spent his entire life dedicated to Youth and Community service. His careers included Recreation Director at NYS Division for Youth Brookwood Secure Facility, Hudson Youth Commissioner, and Executive Director of the Hudson Boy’s Club. His commitment to athletics included being one of the original players for the Tri-County Vikings semi-pro football team, Hudson High School Athletic Director and Bluehawks football coach for over 20 years., along with many years of being an officer and umpire of the Hudson Little League. Other Community involvement included the American Legion, Hudson Flag Day Chairman, and Hudson Youth Department Recreation Supervisor. Gerry served on the Hudson City School District school board and was a past senior class advisor. He was a life member of J.W.Edmonds Hose Co., and had been honored as Hudson Rotary Club’s Man of the Year. Gerald served in the US Air Force upon graduation from high school and was Honorably Discharged after 4 years of service. Gerry was also a dedicated member of the Hudson Elk’s Lodge #787. The lodge was his family, and Woody served on every committee, board, and office that was available. He is a Past Exalted Ruler, and achieved the title of District Deputy.
Gerald leaves to cherish his memory, his son Christopher (Gretchen) Wood, daughters Michele Wood Clarke, Jennifer Wood (fiancé Daniel Sunn), grandchildren Dylan Clarke, Olivia and Addison Mann, and Jordyn and Michael Wood. Greatgrandchildren Austin and Noah Wood, and siblings Ronald Wood, Charlie Webster and Charlene Morocco. Survivors also include several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Gerry was predeceased by a brother James Mueller.
Funeral services from the Bates & Anderson Redmond & Keeler Funeral Home will be Thursday January 5, at 10:00am. Interment will be in the family plot at Cedar Park Cemetery. Visitation hours at the funeral home are Wednesday January 4, from 4-8pm. Memorial contributions in Gerry’s name may be made to the American Diabetes Association 50 Colvin Ave. Albany, NY 12206
Immediately following the funeral service and interment, a celebration of Gerry's life will continue with refreshment and fellowship at the Hudson Elks Lodge on Harry Howard Ave.
