Wish kid Jack has always loved everything about football, but his spinal muscular atrophy forced him to find another way to get involved in the game besides playing. Jack began coaching his friends in football on the playground in the first grade. So much that his friends began calling him “coach.” Jack never thought those moments would lead to becoming a coach for his favorite NFL team, the Carolina Panthers.
Upon arriving at Bank of America stadium, Jack and his family were given a tour of the facilities and met his fellow coaches. After signing his official contract stating he would be coach for the day, Jack began one of the most memorable days of his life.
The players were formally introduced to their new Associate Head Coach, by the Panthers’ Head Coach, Ron Rivera. Jack prepared a speech but being too overwhelmed to read it, asked Rivera to do it instead. In the locker room, Jack got tons of autographed items to add to his collection of Panthers items he likes to sit around the TV while watching every game.
After meeting his new team, it was game time. Jack got to spend time on the sidelines keeping stats with his whistle in-hand. By the end the game, the panthers’ players had become a fan of Jack! His favorite player, Cam Newton, even wanted his autograph. This day was just what Jack needed to keep lift his spirits.
