We took a charter plane out to Anan Creek Wildlife Observatory to watch both black and brown bears come down and catch the salmon as they begin their "runs" back to their birthplace during this part of the season. Talk about the world's best fishermen! - It's like an all-you-can-eat sushi buffet for them before they hibernate for the winter!
If you're visiting Ketchikan in the summer, be aware that the U.S. Parks Service restricts the number of daily number of visitors to Anan Creek & requires permits for entrance. Many thanks to Captain Dave of Family Air Tours for finding us some of these elusive permits last minute and flying us out to Anan Creek safe & sound!
