Need some background lava elements on a project so I had a try at making some "good enough" lava only using Bifrost. Don't have time to learn Houdini ha.
It does suffer from mesh flickering which I couldn't reduce anymore than shown here, but not really a problem on this project. The 1st three renders are raw renders and the others are a mixture of those three using AO passes to blend them. Didn't end up using vorticity/velocity data for masking/mixing as I won't need it for the project. Used a variation of density values to help alter viscosity behaviour. UV projection enabled on emitter. Material is a Vray blend material with a base material of self illuminated orange and a secondary material of the dark grey, used a noise texture to blend them. Extra surface detail added using displacement.
