In our passage this morning, Mark 5:21-43, we see two examples of extraordinarily faith in Jesus! Two individuals approach Jesus with seemingly impossible situations, trusting Jesus to heal and restore. In both cases, Jesus does act on the basis of their faith, demonstrating His authority over sickness and even death. We learn from these two encounters that the proper response to Jesus is humility, desperation and faith. But something else is going on in our passage. By overcoming sickness and death Jesus shows us what He has come to do! He has intervened to put an end to the destructive reign of sin and death! Furthermore, his healing miracles serve as a foretaste of the new world that Jesus will one day bring about. As Christians may we daily be encouraged by our future hope of God's new world, one void of sickness, death, evil and pain. May this future hope affect how we live now in the present.
