Von Von!
This is a story of a man, who learns to fly.
A man has a wing, carries it along, follows a stream, unable to steer.
He dreams of flying and shares this dream with others.
Share the wing with friends, becoming stronger.
Sometimes it happens that someone steals the wing, but he protects it, leaving the thief fall alone.
As the time goes by, the man realises he forgot his wing, so he stands against the stream and walks backwards to find it.
Tracing back he finally finds it and lays down to rest. Suddenly, he realises something beautiful he never felt before, a continuous circle of life creating the stream he used to want to escape from. He looked around and saw small flowers following the older and the old letting the young take their place and lead. Everything was happening in that one moment and he was in peace with the moment.
The man stands up, hold his wind, follows a stream, unable to steer.
This music video was created with love on fjords in Volda, Norway, in January 2011.
The technique: stop motion ink, water-based paint and oil animation on a set of glass tables.
Colours are mixed with water and linseed oil. Since the colours dried quickly, the image capture was fast. Marine Duchet and other animators simultaneously carefully moved elements (oils, wool, photo foiles, ropes, photo filters) on five glass tables. This synchronous action was the most challenging reminding theatre where everything has to work on one shot. A wonderful side effects were forming at spots were colours were mixing together. I wanted to keep the natural behaviour and avoid using artificial effects during post-production. Except for short coffee breaks, we worked continuously on this movie for 30 days.
