Created in 2016 by Lake George Music Festival (LGMF) Music Director Roger Kalia, Sounds of Our Time is an innovative concert series that will explore connections that cross musical genres.
The Sounds of Our Time concert series seeks to demonstrate the connections between popular music of our time and classical music, both contemporary and from the past. Each concert will highlight the similarities and common links between two different genres by opening with a classical performance by members of the LGMF Symphony Orchestra, followed by a solo set of our featured artist, and culminating with a unique collaboration between the two groups. Throughout the concert, you will soon discover that modern popular music is fundamentally similar to classical music.
For our first installment, we will focus on electronica and feature the PCEDM (Progressive and Cinematic Electronic Dance Music) duo Mako. Performing at the nation’s top popular music festivals such as Lollapalooza and Coachella, Mako (Alex Seaver and Logan Light) has achieved national acclaim as an innovator in electronic music, reaching the top 5 on the Billboard Dance Charts.
We will open the concert with works by John Adams, Steve Reich, and Philip Glass, among others performed by the LGMF Symphony Orchestra in an effort to highlight the connection between these composers’ music and Mako’s PCEDM style, followed by a solo set of original music by Mako. The performance will culminate with a unique collaboration between Mako and the LGMF Symphony Orchestra, presenting a set of Mako’s original compositions arranged for a classical orchestra and electronics.
