This is a personal video of Bill Verplank's excellent opening Keynote at Interactions 2011 in Boulder, Colorado.
My quote on Speaker rate
I could listen to Bill Verplank talk all day long. In fact, i'd love an audio book made by him that i could listen to in order to get to a relaxed but inspired state.
Bill didn't necessarily give anything radically new, although despite the criticism on him re-using his same diagram and concepts, he has expanded these further.
I actually think that it's great that his models still hold true and actively listening to him while drawing at same time, was definitely great at helping those things seep in some more.
I would have loved to hear more opinions and provocation as he tailed off a bit on his views re: tangible interactions, and CHI.
I also thought his thoughts on understanding materials was really good. We do find ourselves obsessing on process a lot of the time, and the best thing about interaction design for me is the design by making, rather than just design by thinking. that's what differentiates the discipline (if you can call it that) from IA.
Bill is a legend, it was great for him to set up things, and it was a great session to start the hangover-filled day with (thanks Karaoke!)
