A Portrait of Self and Soul is a video self-portrait that speaks to the last eight years of my life living beside a lake on a mountain in Tasmania. After 30 years of being in business, my move from Brisbane was determined by various traumatic events which ultimately incited an impending sense of mortality. This lead to a complete life change whence I began to develop an art practice, abandoned so long ago. My work explores the deep conviction that the construct of reality is but a small part of a greater metaphysical other. The soundtrack is comprised of fragments from A Dialogue of Self and Soul by William Butler Yeats, Fortuna by Thomas Carlyle, Soren Kierkegaard’s Fear and Trembling and Ecclesiastes.
