The series Verde Ftalocianina y Blanco de Titanio –the title refers to the name of the colour given by the manufacturer- is about a research in which Clarissa Cestari deals with the deconstruction of the painting gesture, where the artist transforms a single small brush stroke on paper, cropped up in different stages, into a formal autonomous element of the painting. This involves a process where each ¨stage¨ or fragment of the brush stroke is blown up and projected into large scale canvasses, working as guideline on the reconstruction of the brush stroke, where the linear marks left by the brush are constructed line by line, preserving the three-dimensionality of its texture.
Taking the stuff of paint as a readymade, the work is about the tension between rejoicing over the expressiveness of the material and the obsession of controlling it. In this way the artist examines the subversion of a spontaneous painting gesture, fragmenting it and adulterating its speed and scale, in order to generate new elements, which are the result of the transformation of something expressive and spontaneous into something systematic.
