Time lapse video showing the progress made on Manchester's Central Library Transformation up until February 2011.
Scaffold installation has never been so captivating: Manchester Central Library is filled with 10 miles of scaffold tubes, 5 miles of scaffold boards and almost 14000 fittings. Supported by the book stack system underneath, the scaffold structure weighs a massive 120 tons - however, this is over 80 tons less than the estimated weight of the books that were stored in the Library before the transformation project began.
Don't forget to look at Wendy Graham's brilliant photographs of Central Library taken in autumn 2010 after the books had been cleared out but before the work had started.
Central Library is now closed for refurbishment and City Library, a new, temporary library is open on Deansgate.
