Understanding how to make things balance, and beginning to understand how to predict if something will balance, are an important part of a child's ability to make sense of the physical world.
A famous Connecticut sculptor, Alexander Calder, is well known for inventing the mobile. This now common decorative hanging sculpture which depends on balance for its movement was unknown before Calder began to make them. He lived in Roxbury Connecticut.
