"When the sun sets…. the heat rises!"
"Bonsoir young lovers, where ever you are", I’m Pamela Firefly, your late night Jazz Provocateur.
Last week I was a 'fly on the wall' at First and Hope’s beautiful art deco cabaret lounge, Fedora; tucked neatly behind Disney Concert Hall, in Downtown Los Angeles.
This swanky 4-star restaurant not only presents the HOTTEST jazz bands in Los Angeles.and trust me, the Reed/Lesure Quartet delivered, big time.
Eric Reed played the piano as if he had known each note personally. Just being in Mr. Reed's presence was liberating... and Jacques Lesure's solos were remarkably fluid, melodic, unhurried and delicate. Both of these musicians were immensely satisfying.
Reed and Lesure opened the second set up with two world-class members of the Jazz at Lincoln Orchestra; legendary saxophonist Victor Goines and young virtuoso Dan Nimmer on piano, who I might add were simply marvelous!
BOTTOM LINE: Swing is 'alive and well' on the left coast...until next time...
