Focusing his study on the humble Tasmanian potato, Lachlan Dick investigated whether introducing a nutrient to soil would neutralise the toxic effect of sodium in soil to improve crop output. Lachlan found that the introduction of calcium chloride to saline-affected soil improved the growth rate and biomass of potatoes in his study.
