Fun Moment is a self-portrait that takes the viewer to an altered state of time perception. As the subject drinks a beer on an old piece of playground equipment time is sped up and brought into realtime only when the action of drinking is performed. The viewer is asked to join in a meditative activity by partaking in an ‘urban gaze’. A sense of calmness and escape is revealed through the subject’s reflective state.
The separation between the subject and the urban surroundings function as a commentary on the paradigm of urban fabric. Much like Bruce Nauman’s performance 'Walking in an Exaggerated Manner Around the Perimeter of a Square', Fun Moment is a commentary on our restricted use of space and the set of social expectations within that space. Correlating time perception with the urban framework, Fun Moment encourages a public consciousness towards reclaiming public space.
