Artist duo BERGERNISSEN invites the visitors to join a collective process highlighting the boundary between the individual search for spiritual meaning and everyday life as an uncertain space.
Where does the collective desire for deeper meaning and spirituality result from? Which components of everyday life play a role for searching, finding and loosing these primary and simultaneously universal desires for meaning and maintenance? On September 1, 2016, BERGERNISSEN will trace these questons in a séance-like happening together with the audience.
The new production is supported by the NRW KULTURsekretariat and the Ministry for Families, Children, Youth, Culture and Sports of North Rhine-Westphalia in the context of PerformAktiv.
Alisa Berger (*1987 in Makhachkala) and Lena Ditte Nissen (*1987 in Munich) live in Cologne. They completed their studies at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne this year. Besides their individual artistic practice, they develop performative, cinematic and curatorial projects under the name BERGERNISSEN since 2012. They often deal with ephemeral invasions of reality into spheres of subjective spirituality and mythology. One´s individual attitude concerning the boundaries between knowledge and belief is examined in a playful way. Works of the duo have been presented at the Kunsthalle Düsseldorf (time.based.academy, 2015), at the Videonale Parcour in Bonn (2015) and at the Kunstverein Heidelberg (2014).
