These still frames were extracted from an interim low resolution state of HD footage shot using a Flip HD camera. The painting-like images appealed to me and the shadowy vagueness of the people seemed to reflect the ambience of the dance. The footage was shot at the Saturday night dance during the 2011 National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada. The great zydeco music was played Geno Delafose and French Rockin' Boogie—I used some partial tracks from one of the band's recordings for the soundtrack. To retain the pastel quality and low resolution aspects of the frames, I opened the footage in iMovie, used the screen capture command on an Apple G4 Powerbook to capture the images, then cropped them in Photoshop. I assembled the frames in iMovie and exported the finished video as an mp4 for loading on Vimeo.
