Squeeze Fiddle Pluck is a nine-piece Ceilidh band (including caller) from the Mendip and Chew Valley area.
We have been a band for over 3 years now, a group of amateur musicians and friends building a repertoire of traditional British folk music, flirting with some modern pop-classics adapted to fit Ceilidh dances (think Springsteen, Erasure, Levellers…).
We play regularly at local events and are hired for private parties and fundraisers in Somerset and further afield. We’ve been a regular fixture at the Ring-O-Bells (Compton Martin) Cheese and Cider festival (which I believe we saw Michael Eavis at one year) and the Priddy Folk festival (where we have put on a “kids Ceilidh” in the children’s tent for 3 years). We put on a yearly Christmas Ceilidh at the Wookey Hole Social Club for the local community, and have also played the Bristol Cider and Sausage festival at the Trinity Centre.
We would love to have the opportunity to play at Glastonbury 2017. Many of us are regular Glastonbury goers, as paying guests and some of us working in the recycling team. So far we haven’t stumbled across any Ceilidhs. In our experience, and particularly with the help of the talent and infectious enthusiasm of our caller, Ceilidhs make people happy: everyone is up for a dance at Glastonbury anyway, so we think a bit of country dancing would go down a treat.
What could we offer?
Assuming you’re not going to put us on the pyramid stage, we had the following ideas:
“Pop up Ceilidhs” – we could wander around (probably the theatre/ circus / Avalon area where the other wandering performers are) and do “pop up ceilidhs” – draw people in to some organised dancing in the mud. Great fun.
Ceilidh in a tent – more straightforward: you could give us a slot in one of the tents and we could do a daily Ceilidh to get everyone going (or more than one!).
Kids ceilidh – we are probably one of the only Ceilidh bands with experience of running ceilidhs for yourng children. If you wanted a bit of musical entertainment for the kids field, you could put us on the agenda. We come equipped with extra tambourines for the children to join in.
Everyone loves a ceilidh!
