In this message Pastor Rich wonders about "Superbowl": Is it a godless orgy of consumerism, violence, and hero worship? An opportunity to know and experience God?
Or maybe a bit of both.
Football is unconditional love
-Tom Brady, New England Patriots quarterback
Sports can be that void that brings everyone together regardless of any barriers socio-economic standing, race and religion. Religion of Sports [TV program] will be the bridge that connects the passion of religion with the passion of sports.”
-Michael Strahan, retired NFL player, sportscaster
I think just the opportunity to play, to be out on that field and realise it's the NFL and you're playing at the highest level of competition there is, that's pretty incredible.
-Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons quarterback
In sports you often become part of something greater than yourself. On the field, you come into sync with your teammates and coaches and together you achieve something that you could never do on your own. And as an athlete, when you are on that field and the fans get really engaged and you can feel their energy and passion and true love of the game, it is absolutely a spiritual experience.
I hate the Patriots
Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God… Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness.
