Early Childhood Development Mapping Project - A closer look at Fort McMurrays children readiness to learn
(Line Marie Perron, Community Development and Mobilization Manager, University of Alberta; Christina Ezekiel, Community Development Zone Coordinator for Wood Buffalo, Early Child Development Mapping Project)
This project will explore Fort McMurray’s children’s developmental progress as they enter Kindergarten as it relates to the socio-economic status of that community. The information from the project will allow the community to identify the needs of its children and respond to them at the community level.
The Changing Family Unit
(Carey Bonnah, Executive Director, The HUB Family Resource Centre)
Fort McMurray is a unique community for parents to raise their children. Shift work often entails working many days in a row for long hours for many parents. With the cost and lack of childcare, families have decided to hire Nannies to care for their children. How does this change affect our children and parents? With the need for workers Fort McMurray also has a very diverse population. How do the families from other cultures adjust to parenting in Canada? As a Family Resource Centre answers to these questions is vital to adjust our services and programs to support families. (Contributors: Elvation Team of THE HUB)
