Interview with Jan van Essen at a contemporary art fair in Brussels in november 2010.
Jan van Essen a self-made man (1944) is fascinated by the colors and forms of vegetables and flowers. Jan works on large canvasses to give space and attention to small details from nature. Oilpaint is the ideal medium for a thoughtful and personal experience of colors and tone. Jan works with photos, made by himself when he frequently visits marketplaces and the fields. Beside the love for painting, Jan also has a passion for music, most of the paintings are made on the music of Richard Wagner or Maria Callas.
