Kathy Bigsby Moore, is founding executive director of Voices for Children Nebraska.
For Kathy Bigbsy Moore, what started a as loving gesture of welcoming 35 foster children into her home would lead down a 30 plus year path of helping thousands of Nebraska children, many of whom would never know her name or see her face.
In 1975 Kathy and her husband Craig began serving as foster parents, opening their home to more than 35 children. But for Kathy, that was not enough. She wanted to reach more children and impact their lives more greatly. So in the early 1980s she helped write legislation which created the Foster Care Review Board. Wishing to make yet a further impact, in 1987 she founded Voices for Children. Since that time, Voices for Children has worked in the legislature, and in the community to influence public policy around children’s issues. This effort has increased adoptions, improved policies, developed stronger linkages, changed laws and increased funding to improve how our community protects its most vulnerable.
