Broaching the sensitive subject of handling the death of a loved one, Sue Ryder aimed for an effective yet empathetic tone to promote its support community. We played off the theme of fragility with anthropomorphized yarn, posing the question, “When your world hangs by a single thread, how do you stop yourself from unravelling?”
With the support of those who have experienced this before, the yarn becomes a symbol of hope, optimism and strength as our main character finds the right thread to knit itself back together.
As those who have ever attempted stop motion will know, the process can be painstaking. But this was truly a labor of love as we holed ourselves up in a studio for a week shooting frame by frame, to create something worthy of the subject matter.
