"GIVE IT TO YOU STAGE" is a multi-media musical/spectacle featuring a cast of queer dancers and older adults. Married couple Larissa (choreographer) and Jon Velez-Jackson (writer/musician) formed the experimental, hip hop-influenced project Yackez in late 2010 and began performing a few months later. This married musical duo exists as both a celebration and critique of popular culture, politics, urban mentality and most notably, itself. Over the years, the production grew larger as they performed in a variety of diverse places--dance theaters, bars, parades, street fairs, etc. "Give It To You Stage” tells the story of their struggles of trying to make it as artists in New York, from piecing together finances for shows, to tackling difficult decisions about possibly expanding their family given their difficult lifestyle. Larissa brings in a chorus of older adult dancers from her fitness teaching day job, while Jon adds elements from his strange obsession with professional wrestling. Their large cast serves as a defiant celebration of diversity in these trying times of political and social turmoil. The show is a family friendly affair, thanks in part to the presence of YackMan, the group's confused yet sweet mascot.
