Parishioners from Sacred Heart Parish in Troy, MO gathered together for nine evenings in their different homes to celebrate "Las Posadas". The posadas are traditional Hispanic advent gatherings in preparation for Christmas. Similar to a novena, the nine nights of a posada re-create Mary and Joseph's difficult journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem in search of shelter.
The word "posada" translated means "the inns" and during the novena pilgrims sing a song at the entrance to the house asking for hospitality and shelter. In the first verse of the song the pilgrims sing "En el nombre del cielo, yo os pido posada, pues no puede andar, mi esposa amada." which translated into English is: "In the name of the heavens, I request lodging from you, Because she cannot walk, My beloved wife."
