Speaking up is a film to help reduce the barriers for youth to enter treatment for addiction. This 21 minute film made by addiction medicine specialists and award winning filmmakers documents the story of 7 young adults who have struggled with drug and alcohol use disorders and are currently in treatment. Youth from 20 to 29 years old share their fears of going into treatment, what treatment is really like, and what they are getting out of it. They speak directly to other youth who may watch the video to inspire them. The techniques of rotoscoping and voice alteration are used to protect the identity of the youth interviewed. Youth, physicians, and parents may find this film engaging and useful.
