According to the Western Australian independent statutory authority, The Conservation Commission, poor management and systematic failings by the Dept. of Environment and Conservation (which took over from C.A.L.M.) have hastened the spread of dieback in southwest forests. This was in 2011.
The audit identified 18 areas of concern, from a lack of planning to limit the spread of the disease to an inadequate commitment to dieback training and education within the department.
