Xero is designed so you can quickly and easily start doing business today, while taking the time you need to set up your account correctly. From the Welcome Panel, you can get stuck into running your business right away.
Start by creating your first invoice...a contact name, date, due date, and some line items is all you need. Before sending the Invoice, it’s a good idea to add your Organisation Details from here too.
Lot’s of details can be added here. Start with a logo. Add your addresses, phone number, email, website, and plenty more.
Hit Save once you’re done. Back on the Invoice we’re creating, clicking Preview will show you what the Online Invoice is going to look like when the customer receives it. Save the Invoice as a draft, submit it for approval, or if you’re done - just hit approve.
On the Dashboard, items will be ticked off as you complete them. You can add a bill just the same way as you did for Invoices.
The customers and suppliers used on Invoices and Bills will be automatically added as contacts in Xero, but they can be added with more detail at any time, too. Any relevant contact info can be added here, including the Contact Name, phone numbers, addresses, and financial defaults.
Whenever you’re done, just click Save. Adding an Invoice, Bill and Contacts is something you can do quickly and easily - you’re underway!
Click on ‘Get set up’. It’s time to connect your bank account. It's an easy task that only takes a few minutes, but the benefits are huge.
Search for your bank, and select it. Enter an Account Name. Then choose the account type and fill in the account number.
It’s a good idea to connect the bank account in Xero to your online banking, that way statement lines are brought into Xero automatically, making it simple to keep your accounts accurate and up-to-date. Just click ‘Get Bank Feeds’ to get started.
If you have an accountant or bookkeeper, Xero enables you to collaborate with them to grow your business. Choose ‘Work with your accountant or bookkeeper in Xero’ to invite them straight into your organisation.
If you're looking for an adviser, you can find one in the directory here. Now you’re almost done, the last thing to do is confirm the Chart of Accounts. A few simple changes to the default chart to suit your business may be all you need. For more complex changes, you may want to work with your advisor to make sure the chart is set up correctly, and reports stay accurate.
