Cinedans - Dance on Screen Festival is unique in the Netherlands and in the world. The central focus of the festival is on dance film. Cinedans sees the ideal dance film as a true synthesis between the two media of dance and cinematography. At Cinedans the emphasis lies on choreographies created specifically for the camera and on special film adaptations of existing dance performances.
In this 14th edition special focus on Practice & Potential: The festival investigates the latest developments and methods in the fields of dance film and interactive presentation forms. Cinedans spotlights both the present, past and future of dance film, presenting the latest Dutch dance shorts, a retrospective program of dance films from the 1970s and 1980s, and a special day dedicated to student films and projects made as part of Cinedans LAB. The festival will also announce the winner of the international student competition. Additionally, Cinedans presents several Dutch premieres including the feature film The Ferryman (with performance artist Marina Abramovic) and WIM, a documentary about choreographer and theatremaker Wim Vandekeybus.
