A short animation based on The Black Cat by Edgar Allen Poe; a tale of addiction, despair and remorse.
This film was made in 2006 as the final project of my Bachelors in Design: Visual Communication. I've since completed a Masters in Animation as well and love it.
The Black Cat is predominantly made up of hand drawn stills manipulated using the Z space in After Effects. Some rotoscoping was also undertaken to animate the cat (don't worry, no animals were harmed in the making).
This film is an abbreviated version of the original short story by Edgar Allen Poe, which I adapted for the animated format. I really would recommend reading the original, as the language is so rich and foreboding, a feel that I have tried to communicate in this piece.
This was my first ever attempt at animation or filmmaking so I hope you enjoy it. I also have a few other short films now since completing my masters, so I will throw them on here shortly.
