About the collection, Spring 2017:
AWADH collection is inspired by the poise and intellectual prowess of Nur Jahan, wife of Mughal emperor Jahangir. Her power and immense influence in a time when women were relegated to harems is juxtaposed with the dynamic work of Hungarian painter and photographer László Moholy-Nagy “Future-Present.”
Traditional Indian techniques such as chickenkari embroidery and hand carved wood block printing, combined with refined handwoven silk and cotton textiles are interpreted into essential key pieces for a modern, confident woman. Each piece is a celebration of these century-old crafts and the rare artisans who still practice them today.
