They consider the influence of psychoanalysis and the ideas of Freud on the development of the concept, and question the pursuit of happiness.

Mark Vernon is a journalist, philosopher and his recent books include 'Plato's Podcasts', 'The Meaning of Friendship' and 'The Good Life'.
