Art of Élan launched its third annual residency with the nationally recognized A Reason To Survive (ARTS), an organization that believes in the power of the arts and creativity to literally transform lives – especially those of kids facing adversity. Consisting of weekly workshops, where 9 ARTS Empower students and alumni have the opportunity to be individually mentored by professional Art of Élan musicians through unique apprenticeships, the Young Artists in Harmony residency culminated in two separate performances for the San Diego community. The first of which was December 10th at ARTS in a concert offered FREE to the public. This program featured world premiere works originally composed music by all 9 students to expose new audiences to the transformative power of music written today. Over 200 people attended last years performance, which was professionally recorded and is available for free streaming on Instant Encore. In the second performance, the students ventured out of their home community and into the greater San Diego community to showcase their works at the San Diego Art Institute in Balboa Park alongside the Art Institute’s Southern California/Baja Biennial showcased works.
