A selection of short clips from a larger body of work. The selection includes:
1) Viewing specimens in the collection of the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. These were procured by Andrew Downs (proprietor of North American's first public zoological gardens) in Halifax, in the mid 1800's
2) Ave Maria, sung in three locations: the former bird sanctuary of Charles Waterton— possibly the world’s first— where Andrew Downs visited in the 1860’s for research (the site is now a golf course), the second is beside the Museum of Natural History in London, UK (designed to resemble a cathedral), the third is in the Room of the Great Debate, where Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution was debated for the first time (Oxford, UK).
3) The Dodo Manège Carousel was created and painted by Jean-Jacques Harel, and can be found outside of the Jardin des Plantes et Animeaux in Paris. Each animal on the carousel is either extinct or endangered.
