Working with the ASD community, family and carers; through creative workshops and working alongside film professionals, members helped plan, produce and make a short film. The finished film will be promoted via a social media campaign throughout National Autism Awareness week and through promotion by the National Autism Society.
Through our Action for Autism project, 'Qualified', was made with the ASD community every step of the way and was designed to focus on a key phase of transition from education to employment. The main character is a girl because there is an increasing number of girls being diagnosed and ASD is no longer considered just a male specific disorder. It is a spectrum and the NAS has already done a tremendous job attempting to represent a more intense experience autism.org.uk/get-involved/tmi/film.aspx. The aim was to address the top end of the spectrum and debunk the idea that everyone on the spectrum can't function and can't work.
