The purpose of this contest was to come up with an idea to break a world record which would have the greatest impact on society. My 100-word essay is attached.
OSU will announce winners on April 12, 2011.
Special thanks to the Stillwater Humane Society for allowing me to shoot video on-site.

The dog in this video is named Mad-Eye Moody (after the Harry Potter character) and is currently up for adoption at the Humane Society of Stillwater. Despite how sad he looks in this video, he is actually quite spunky and affectionate. He is a dark brindle Boston Terrier and yes, is missing one eye. He is searching for his forever home. He is already neutered and sits on command. His adoption fee is only $50. Please contact the Humane Society for more information. shelter@hspets.org

My essay:
"Millions of pets are euthanized in shelters each year. By establishing "World Pet Adoption Day" with the goal of setting the world record for the number of pet adoptions, many of these lives can be saved.
It wouldn't just impact animals; these pets will enrich the lives of their rescuers. There are documented physical and mental health benefits to owning a pet. Plus, the joyful approach to life that shelter pets demonstrate is contagious. For every animal rescued, one human life would change for the better. Multiply that by the number of rescues. That's math that will change the world."
