NOTES (2017) is a 52-channel LCD screen audio-visual installation made up of over 1,700 autobiographical "notes", word plays, neologisms, and onomatopoeia handwritten by the Heimbecker on an almost daily basis from one year after the 2008 global financial crisis until 2014, a period of 6 years of economic uncertainty that inspired his gradual redemption.
NOTES uses a philosophical rhizome inspired network diffusion concept (Deleuze and Guattari) that produces a nearly infinite amount of text combinations on 52 LCD screens to create the constantly changing poem. Finally, specially created software designed by the artist called Word Music transforms his words and phrases into musical phrases. Here the individually written words on the screens are transformed into a melancholic quintet composition in b-minor for 2 sampled grand pianos, 2 sampled cellos and a sampled contrabass, which like the rhizomatic word poem is also diffused randomly across the screen array.
Motion sensors in the individual screens activate the NOTES installation as a viewer moves in front of the array. The unfolding content of the installation is present for a few minutes and then disappears into dark silent running ready to continue again from new movement from where it had stopped. The asynchronous start-up of the array of motion sensors, plus the variable duration of the word and musical phrases produces randomized poetic and musical content of nearly infinite combinations and phrasing.
NOTES premiered at Manif d’art 8 - Biennale de Québec, Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, QC/CA from February to May 2017.
