In today's video, Doug Varone talks about crafting the dance from a non-choreographic point of view: considering the way that design elements effect the work, and his many sources of inspiration. Check back daily this week to meet each of our designers and collaborators from Chapters from a Broken Novel.

Doug Varone and his exquisite dancers take the Joyce Theater stage for the much‐anticipated New York City premiere of their acclaimed new work, CHAPTERS FROM A BROKEN NOVEL. Kindled by a bold cinematic score by David Van Tieghem, Varone's CHAPTERS reveals a world teeming with everyday moments exposed for their beauty and rawness. Illuminated with humor and pathos, these episodes are vivid, physically charged renderings of human interaction in spheres both public and private. With bold strokes of movement mingled with detailed intimate gesture, Varone once again paints human portraits with the nuance and complexity that has made him one of his generation's most compelling dancemakers. CHAPTERS FROM A BROKEN NOVEL will be presented with live music performed by the score's composer, David Van Tieghem.
