The sound of the wokmaker used to be part of the fabric of Chinese life. But modernity, economic reform, the real estate industry and code enforcement have all conspired to silence the artisans of this dying folkcraft. In Shanghai, Tao Qingjian is one of the last men to make woks by hand. This is the story of Tao's struggle to keep practicing his craft.
