In 2013 I was invited as one of a group of design instructors to run a typography and technology workshop in the small town of Castrignano dei Greci near the Southern Italy town of Lecce. Castrignano dei Greci is a very small town of just over 4,000 inhabitants whose heritage is proudly Greek. Every August they have a festival of lights celebrating how the town was saved from destruction by a cyclone by St. Anthony. I fell in love with the design of the lights and grabbed my camera and shot this. None of the subjects in the film speak English neither do I speak Italian but I had help from some of the students/teachers particularly Marika Mastrandrea who was my production assistant and interpreter. I have had no chance to translate this so it's in Italian. If you don't understand it never mind, just enjoy the beautiful design. The gelato here was amazing and I was hooked, enjoying the walk in the blistering sun to buy some after lunch! Marika and I made this a daily ritual.
