Penn IUR and Penn Press’s latest book, Global Urbanization. Authors in this collection reflect on the fact that in 2007, for the first time in history, more than half of the world’s population lived in urban areas making urbanization, across the world but especially in Asia and Africa, one of the most critical issues of the twenty-first century. Global Urbanization surveys essential dimensions of this growth and begins to formulate a global urban agenda for the next half century. Panelists will discuss the book and its broader themes. Speakers include Robert Buckley, Managing Director of the Rockefeller Foundation; John Landis, Crossways Professor of City and Regional Planning at PennDesign; Stephen Malpezzi, Lorin and Marjorie Tiefenthaler Distinguished Chair of Real Estate at the Wisconsin School of Business, University of Wisconsin; and Genie Birch and Susan Wachter, co-editors of Global Urbanization (Penn Press, 2010) and co-directors of the Penn Institute for Urban Research.
