Presenter is Laura F. McNicholas, MD, PhD
Director, Buprenorphine Program Philadelphia VA Medical Center
Clinical Associate Professor
University of Pennsylvania
This session will cover issues related to induction and stabilization of buprenorphine/ naloxone for the treatment of opioid dependence. Since the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment published Clinical Guidelines for the Use of Buprenorphine in the Treatment of Opioid Addiction (TIP #40) in 2004, some practices have changed; some due to the evidence base, and others through clinical trial-and-error and consensus.
Dr. McNicholas will discuss the management of the actively addicted patient, using both office-based and at-home protocols. She will also discuss switching patients who are stabilized on methadone to buprenorphine. Stabilization doses and monitoring will also be reviewed.
